Eleanor Estes () grew up in West Haven, Connecticut, which she renamed Cranbury for her classic stories about the Moffat and Pye families. A children’s librarian for many years, she launched her writing career with the publication of The Moffats in Two of her outstanding books about the Moffats—Rufus M. and The Middle Moffat—were awarded Newbery Honors, as was Reviews: origin This great and noble surname is English. Thomas Estes was possibly a brother to Middleton Estes. Lawson B. Cammack  and Benjamin Glass  were descendants of an Abraham Estes [Ca. ] of Caroline Co. Va. as well as was Middleton Estes mentioned above. Published genealogies trace the Estes Family to an Abraham [father of above Abraham] Estes who was born. 4 with leaving the line thus incompletely traced, and in the sum mer Jof , while recovering from a long period of sickness, he resolved to make one more effort to fully trace the ancestral descent back to the emigrant ancestor who settled in America. Soon after this, by correspondence, he made the acquaintance of n, of Woburn, Mass., alineal descend.
